Pro-business groups ask Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam to delay raising minimum wage

Pro-business groups are banding together in Virginia, asking Gov. Ralph Northam to delay raising the minimum wage and other legislation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 27 groups are involved. They are asking to delay raising the minimum wage for at least a year.

If Gov. Northam signs off, it’s set to go up in January from $7.25 to $9.50 per hour, followed by further increases in the coming years.

The pro-business groups said this is particularly bad timing as they face closures, as well as reducing production, services and workforces.
