About Us
Since 1995 the Virginia Manufacturers Association's Outreach committee has underwritten the Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards for Manufacturers. This award program was established to recognize manufacturers in Virginia who exhibit exceptional environmental stewardship and who have documented the success of their programs. The criterion was developed through a partnership of the Office of the Governor, the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and the Virginia Manufacturers Association's Outreach Committee. This year, the Virginia General Assembly codified the Awards through Senate Bill 1088.
Over the last ten years many companies have applied for the program and received recognition. The companies were divided into large and small manufacturers who offered projects and programs for review. In 2004 two new categories were introduced. One new award was created for land conservation and a second category was for environmental products. The environmental product award is also available to non-manufacturers.
The judges for this program have been selected from manufacturing, universities, government, and the community. These judges review an extensive application and evaluate each applicant against a specific criterion. Applicants may receive gold, silver and bronze recognition.
Applications are now available for 2007 and the deadline for completion is
June 1, 2007. The recognition program for the award held each year during the Virginia Industry Environmental Conference.
