Canadian company to invest $275 million, create 140 jobs, at Bear Island paper plant in Hanover

The Richmond (VA) Times-Dispatch (7/26, Blackwell) reports that Cascades Inc., “a Canadian paper company plans to invest $275 million to open a recycled containerboard operation in the idled Bear Island Paper Mill in Hanover County, creating 140 jobs.” The company is “a maker of packaging and tissue products,” based in Canada. In a statement, Virigina Gov. Ralph Northam (D) is quoted saying, “This investment and the 140 jobs it will create is a major win for Hanover County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. International companies continue to choose the Commonwealth for its world-class workforce and outstanding infrastructure.” Northam adds, “The location in Hanover County offers Cascades a turnkey facility ready for the company to install equipment and put a shuttered asset back into use, creating good jobs for Virginia workers in the region.” WTVR-TV Richmond, VA (7/26) also reports.   Read More >>
